Suttons Bay Public Schools is seeking a full-time, certified Secondary Health & Physical Education Teacher (Grades 6–12) for the 2026-27 school year. This educator will be responsible for creating a student-centered, engaging learning environment that promotes lifelong wellness, physical fitness, and healthy decision-making.

 

The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver with a strong desire to foster a positive, inclusive, and motivating classroom culture. This individual builds meaningful relationships with students, families, and colleagues, and inspires students to actively engage in both physical education and health learning.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and resilient educator who is passionate about student wellness and achievement. The ideal candidate demonstrates creativity in instruction, strong classroom management, and the ability to connect with adolescents. A commitment to collaboration and continuous improvement is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging Health and Physical Education instruction aligned with district curriculum and Michigan Academic Standards
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation, teamwork, and personal growth
  • Promote physical fitness, health literacy, and lifelong wellness habits
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs
  • Assess and monitor student progress using data-informed practices
  • Maintain effective communication with students, families, staff, and administration
  • Integrate technology to enhance instruction and track student performance
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Uphold professional standards, including confidentiality and ethical conduct
  • Participate in school events, professional development, and collaborative team efforts
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the building principal

Required Qualifications

  • Valid and current teaching certificate from the State of Michigan with a K–12 Health & Physical Education endorsement
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional best practices and classroom management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Secondary (middle/high school) teaching experience in Physical Education and Health, include weight training and conditioning 
  • Knowledge of student wellness initiatives and health education frameworks
  • Experience using data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Terms of Employment

Full-time salary and health benefits provided per the SBEA contract.
