Suttons Bay Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic educator to serve as a Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) Teacher, Michigan’s state-funded preschool program for four-year-old children for the upcoming 2026-27 school year. The GSRP Teacher is responsible for creating a high-quality early childhood learning environment that supports children’s social, emotional, and academic development through play-based, developmentally appropriate instruction.
The successful candidate will foster a nurturing classroom culture while implementing the requirements and best practices outlined in the GSRP Implementation Manual and Michigan Early Childhood Standards of Quality for Pre-K.
The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic early childhood educator who is patient, proactive, and passionate about supporting young learners as they grow socially, emotionally, and academically. Strong communication skills, reliability, and a warm classroom presence are essential. Experience in early childhood settings—or a genuine love for working with preschool-aged children—is highly valued.
Plan and implement developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with the GSRP curriculum and the Michigan Early Childhood Standards of Quality for Pre-K
Support and facilitate the daily classroom routine, including whole-group, small-group, and play-based learning experiences
Create and maintain a nurturing, safe, and engaging classroom environment that supports positive behavior and social-emotional development
Observe, document, and assess student learning as required by GSRP guidelines
Collaborate with the GSRP Associate Teacher, early childhood staff, and support services to meet individual student needs
Communicate positively and professionally with families regarding student growth and classroom activities
Participate in required professional development and program quality assessments
Maintain accurate program documentation in accordance with GSRP, licensing, and district guidelines
Maintain confidentiality and uphold district and program standards
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Early Childhood Director and Building Principal
Candidates must meet Michigan Great Start Readiness Program teacher qualifications, which include one of the following:
A valid Michigan teaching certificate with an Early Childhood Education (ZA) endorsement or Early Childhood-General and Special Education (ZS) endorsement, OR
A Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development with a specialization in preschool teaching.
Candidates who do not yet meet full credentialing requirements may be considered if they demonstrate significant early childhood experience and are willing to complete a state-approved compliance plan to meet GSRP requirements within the required timeframe.
Valid Michigan teaching certificate
Preschool or early childhood classroom teaching experience
Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice and positive behavior supports
Experience with research-based preschool curriculum and assessment tools
Familiarity with Preschool Program Quality Assessment (PQA) and Great Start to Quality standards
CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Ability to work collaboratively as part of an early childhood education team
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and staff
Compliance with all district policies, Michigan childcare licensing requirements, and GSRP program guidelines
